Please help clarify James Willard b 1778 Sutton, MA

I need help from all of you Willard experts who can ferret out sources not cited by the 1915 Willard Genealogy, which seems to have confused some James Willards of Worcester County, MA. Two James Willards are thought to be the son of the James Willard who married Abigail Hayward, but ofcourse only one is correct. We need to place each in his proper family.

My ancester was James who went to Halifax, VT and married Esther Lynde 29 Sept 1803 at Guilford, VT. I have always believed that he was the one born on Aug 18, 1778 in Sutton, MA, but ofcourse, the Book says not so; (pg 257) that he married first Susan Carter, then Mrs. Parthenia Lord.

I have been trying to track down the marriages to each of those persons to find more details on that James and so far I have found that: 1. "Susan" Carter was actually Sally or Sarah Carter, daughter of Joshua Carter and Sarah Putnam of Sutton. Sally died in 1833 and is buried in the Dwinnel cemetery there. And 2. Mrs. Parthenia Lord outlived her husband and was listed in the Worcester City Directory for 1881 as "Mrs. Parthenia Willard, widow of James, b 80 Highland."

This James Willard, in contrast to mine who is buried in Halifax, VT, must have been buried in Sterling, Worcester, MA or nearby. Does anyone have access to cemetery records for Worcester county? If we find his burial record I'm hoping to find a birth date on it which will give a year other than 1778. Both wives mentioned were likely born ca 1800, making a twenty year gap between them and James. He would have more likely been born closer to 1798, I think.

I'm hoping someone can find sources proving which James Willard this man of Worcester County really was. Thanks.
