ELIJAH WHITING, b. abt. 1824 in NY m. REBECCA HUBBARD, b. 1832 in NY--NY>WI>MI

I am searching for more information regarding the family (ancestors and descendants) of Elijah Whiting, b. abt. 1824 in NY (this according to the 1860 Federal Census for WI). He m. Rebecca Hubbard, b. 12 Dec 1832 in NY, d/o Stephen S. Hubbard and Jemima Brooks.

According to subsequent censuses, Elijah and Rebecca had the following children:

Flora Ella, b. abt. 1853 in WI
George J., b. abt. 1858 in WI
Alonzo B., b. Mar 1864 in MI

Alonzo m. Margaret (?), b. July 1864 in MI. They had the following children:

Florence M., b. Oct 1887 in MI
Ella B., b. Feb 1891 in MI
(Unk. child), b. & d. bef 1900 in MI

According to Allegan Co., MI, marriage records Rebecca Hubbard Whiting m. 2nd on 10 Feb 1875, Alexander Nichols;
and 3rd on 21 Jan 1882 Abraham Prindle Gidley.

Rebecca d. 26 June 1903 in Manlius Twp., Allegan Co., MI. Her son, George Whiting of (Linnville?) gave the reporting information. Her father is listed as S. S. Hubbard, b. CT, and her mother is listed as J. Brooks, b. unknown.

Jemima Brooks, Rebecca Hubbard's mother, was the d/o Joseph Brooks and Jemima Shaylor/Shailer/Shaler (etc.) of Haddam, Middlesex Co., CT. She was a descendant of Haddam founders Thomas Brooks, Gerrard Spencer, Thomas Shaler and Joseph Arnold (possibly others). Jemima Brooks had three full siblings:

Rebecca Brooks, b. 14 Feb 1788 in Haddam who m. Nehemiah Brainerd, Jr., b. 7 June 1770 in Haddam; (no children, but he had an adopted son named Hanford)

Wakeman Brooks, b. 14 July 1790/1792 in Haddam who m. 1st Anna Ely & 2nd Caroline "Matilda" Rogers (Wakeman and Matilda are my direct line ancestors); Wakeman had 10 children--5 w/each wife (also, his wives were 1st cousins, their mothers being Abigail Flower and Belinda Flower, d/o Ozias Flower and Abigail Leonard)

Catharine Shaylor Brooks, b. abt. 1794 in Haddam, m. William E. Mather and settled in Ashtabula Co., OH (several children).

Rebecca Hubbard Whiting had the following siblings:

Harriet Hubbard, b. abt. 1812 in PA who m. 1st (?)
VanSlyke; 2nd (?) Anguish; 3rd (?) Wright; settled in
MI; unknown if there were children

Norton Hubbard m. Emily Bedortha settled in MI; children:
Calvin B.; Emily L.; Joseph J.; and Lewis Franklin
"Frank"

Nehemiah "Brainard" Hubbard m. Marientha Haines settled in
Allegan Co., MI; children: Francis; Mary J.; and Charles
(probably others)

Wakeman B. Hubbard, Rev., m. Lurena Merritt--children:
Minerva, Martha, and Finley N.; settled in Springfield
Twp., Bradford Co., PA

Elias Hubbard, b. abt. 1834 in NY, m. 1st Hattie
Voorhis/Voorhees--one child: Harriet Amanda Hubbard, b.
abt. 1854 in PA; m. 2nd Luvina Tripp Miller or Luvina
Miller Tripp in Allegan Co., MI; eventually settled in
Ozark Twp., Webster Co., MO.

Lovina Hubbard, b. 16 Dec 1835 in NY; d. 26 Dec 1915 in Casco Twp., Allegan Co., MI; m. 1st William Bailey; m. 2nd 7 June 1877 in Allegan Co., MI, George W. Cummings. Her children included:

Flora Bailey who m. W. N. Cook moved to Washington State
William "Judson" Bailey lived in Kalamazoo, MI
Juliette "Ettie" Bailey m. Levi Hodge last known in MI
Jennie Bailey
Minnie Bailey m. Willard Horatio Rockwell and lived in
Burlington Twp., Bradford Co., PA
Alvin Bailey m. Abigail (?) last known in MI
Fred Bailey
William "Will" S. Bailey m. Jennie Moore last known in MI


I am very interested in learning more about the Whiting family in order to add their information to my Brooks genealogy. Who were Elijah's parents? Where and when was he born? Where did he die? Where is he resting? What happened to their children? Were there others?
