Hello,
I am looking for any information on James Whiting (DOB ~1800-1810). He married Nancy A. Mathena/Matheny in March 1830 at White Rock Gap (near Covington), Alleghany Co. Virginia. They had children Mathew A. (1830-1918), Joseph C. (1833-1903), Juliet Elizabeth (1837-?), John Franklin M. (1841-1883), William A. (1843-1864), and George Alexander (1851-1888). James abandoned Nancy and his family in about 1850. Nancy and the children later lived in Monroe, Kanawha, and Putnam Counties, VA/WV. Sons Mathew and Joseph settled in Jackson Co., WV and had large families there. James was rumored to have died in one of the western states in the 1860s. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
