Donnie, This is interesting, to say the least. There probably isn't any connection, but, stranger things have happened. First, I am a White from southern MS. My gggrandfather is first found in Simpson Co, 1850 and I have been unable to track him backward. There is a story which I have not been able to validate that my White family were actually Traylors and the family, except for a little boy and little girl were all massacred by Indians. A man named White reportedly found the children and raised them as his own. No other info is known and I can find nothing to back this story. However, your Williams connection to the Cherokee is very interesting, indeed. My husband has a Williams line out of Texas and the story is this. This Williams family....I only have the names of sons, William, Brooks, John, and Leonard...reportedly arrived in Texas ca 1820 with the Cherokee! The story I was told is they came from Tenn, down through MS into Ark where they stayed for a time, then went on to Texas. Leonard Williams was killed in 1838 in the Killough massacre near present day Jacksonville, TX when the Commanches raided the fields where they were working. William Williams is my husband's ancestor. He lived a long life and died in Ranger, Texas in 1894. I have no info on the other two brothers. As I said, there probably isn't a connection but your mention of Williams and the Cherokee prompted me to write. My info is this Williams family was with the Chief Bowles group.
