Hi there, Yes, I know it is P in the geneaology, but she marked N when she married Mr. Birdsall. It doesn't have her middle initial here anywhere else, our birth records don't go back that far. There is also a belief that she was born in Kentucky, but she was born in Knoxville, Knox county Illinois. John Heard had bought land here in the 1830's and was a County Commissioner when Abigail and Martin Van Buren were born. I am trying to track down Martins grave. It is either unmarked, or the marker has been destroyed. I am out at all the old cemeteries all the time, so I keep hoping that I will still stumble upon it. I think, from what I read, is that the reason that John Heard traveled so much is that he was doing surveying for roads and the railroad. I know they were in Missouri after they left Illinois. If you have access to the actual genealogy, I would love to know what they have to say about John Heard and family. They have a copy at at a library about an hour from me, but I haven't gotten over there yet to check it out. I have been taking photos in the county cemeteries to submit to our county sites. Anyway, thanks so much. Was your family related to John Heard? I am afraid that Martin Van Buren passed away here in the Ellison storm. Then Abigail passed away-My grandmother Edna Abigail Bixler was the daughter of Kate Carson Birdsall, who was a daughter of Abigail Wentworth Birdsall. My grandmother passed away when I was a small girl and because the family was in Illinois we didn't get to hear a lot about the elder members of the family. Thanks so much!
