Michael Wehr is documented as the father of your great grandfather Joshua Wehr, and of my great grandfather, Charles. Michael was born in Pennsylvanian in 1800 and married twice--once to a "Manervay" Phillips (mother of Joshua) and after her death to Christina Schull (mother of Charles). Michael was a builder of canal boats who worked in Canal Fulton, Ohio from about 1836 to 1848, along the Ohio and Erie canal. He then moved to land near Ft. Wayne Indiana, where he built boats for the Wabash and Erie Canal. But he and his wife both died some time after 1853, leaving their minor children to be bound out to local farmers. Charles and Joshua were separated, but were reunited during their service in the Civil War, though they served in different units. Charles continued in the army, serving with the 18th infrantry at Ft. Phil Kearny, Wyoming until his discharge in 1867. He returned to Indiana, marrying Lucinda Buchanan (I suspect Joshua, who was already married, introduced him) and settling in Carbon, Indiana, where he became a coal miner and reared eight children, my grandmother among them.

I have more detailed information on all this, including a list of the other siblings of Charles and Joshua, plus a detailed Buchanan genealogy I'd be happy to share. Let me hear from you!
