I certainly have NOT given up on John Washburn of Culpeper, but I am at a loss to find his ancestors.
I show Reuben as the 9th child of John and Susannah Washburn, born about 1761.I have no records showing Reuben having any daughters, however it was not uncommon for records to omit female off-spring in those days.
I see that you show your James as having a brother, Samuel W. Washburn. I show him as Samuel S., but I have no documentation to support it. I show the sons of Reuben as:
Barnes Reuben, Thomas, John, Eli, Samuel S. and James W. Again, little documentation to support this family.

According to what I have, James. W. was in Missouri not later than 1819, having married Elizabeth ? July 08, 1819, and, Williams H. was born Oc. 20, 1820 - all occurring at Jefferson City, MO.
I show that Reuben went from VA, to SC, to GA, to KY and finally to to TN where he died in 1844. No record of him being in MO.
I am missing the family names of some of the wives. I have to name at all of Reuben's wife. Nor do I have the family name of James W.'s first wife, only Elizabeth. His second wife's name was Marie S. Anderson, whom he married July 08, 1852 in Washington Co. AR.
