Lillian,

I have recently been made aware of two closely related young men during the civil war, who were both Thorntons, both with first initial S, and both hanged for spies near Raleigh, NC.

Interestingly, one (I have no clue which) was hanged by
the Confederacy for spying for the Union. The other was apparently hanged by the Union as a Confederate spy.

Now, this information comes from my sister, Kate, the writer of fiction, so it may be just the spinning and weaving of her yarns that produced this nearly dubious tapestry, but it could also be true.

So, as we research, so shall we find, and luck may well be a part of that endeavor.

Bill
