I have researched extensively the Thornburgs of N.C. including those in Gaston anad Mecklenberg Co.
If the name was changed from burg to berg then I believe you to be a part of a geater family of Throneburgs of Guilford/Wilkes/Lincoln/Catawba/Gaston Counties.

There are two pathways here to follow as ancestors. Ludwig Dronebarger/Thronebarger of Orange/Lincoln County whose descendants live in Gaston Co. and perhaps Mecklenberg.

Those descendants of Frederick David Throneburg whose surname was truly Tranberg/Thrnaberg pronounced the same as Throneburg. Frederick David had seveeral sons. One of them Lewis Throneburg/Thornburg may be the ancestor of those Thornburgs in Mecklenberg.
