Thanks for replying to my Thornborough etc. note. I am no expert on this
line but can tell you what I know about my Thornborough/Thornbury/Thornburgh, etc.
family. I have made three trips to England most of the time exchanging houses
with the descendants there.
I have a copy of the Marion and Delmar L. Thornbury book and two other unpublished
"books" with spellings of Thornbury, Thornborough, Thornburgh, and several ohter
spellings, but have never found a Thornber spelling among any of them. My own
unpublished book is still in an unfinished format, but begins with the 1400 era. No
where nor from anyone have I found a Thornber spelling before. Also, most of my data is
from the English lines down to the Roland who wound up in Baltimore, Maryland. That
Roland owned much of what is now Baltimore beginning at Thornbury Lake, etc. I live
in Calverton, just south of Baltimore and would be glad to let you see what I have
on that line. I am writing a book now that will include that line beginning with me on
to the Roland and Ann who migrated to Maryland and first lived near my Elledge
ancestors there. I descend from Elizabeth Thornburgh, daughter of Roland's son,
John. Elizabeth married Thomas Elledge and they were parents of Thornberry
Elledge and on down to me. Do you have some particular Thornber connected to
a Thornbury of any spelling? I also have a book of the Thornburg line which said the
descendants were from Thornburgh/Thornborough, etc, but I could nevernever find
a connection, but THAT book author changed the spellings of all the official and proven Thornburgh or Thornboroughs to Thornburg. In ENgland the First Son used the Thornborough
spellling and siblings used the Thornbury or Thornburgh spelling.
I have just today come home from the eye doctors from having the stitches out
from my Glaucoma and cataract surgery so it will be a while before I can see well
enough to try to help find a connection. I am typing with one hand while I hold

I am familiar with Selside as well as Hampsfield. and
with the cooperation of a professor from England who spent some time in USA
teaching, I was able to get official records copied that took my research back the
earliest of the name in Selside which it turned out is where they all lived early and
before they had Hampsfield. I can't recall right now the exact earliest date I have but
it was before 1427 and I have never seen or heard of the Thornber spelling in connection
with eitherThornborough or Thornbury which had all kinds of spellings as they had
the bury or borough endings. My line came from the families who were first known
by those names in Selside. I suppose you already know that even now there is a
history of THAT line that goes back to the invasion of England by the
