Michaels father was Michael Summers who died in Rockingham Co. VA before 1840.

Michael had 5 brothers and 3 sisters: all who were born in Ross Co. Ohio: John - b. 1812 d. before 1870 in Tippecanoe Co. Michael, a farmer moved to Ross Co. OH around 1811 then to Tippecanoe Co. IN by 1830 where he bought 80 acres of dense woods in Lauramie Twp. As soon as possible a cabin of round logs was constructed, later this humble abode was supplanted by a more pretensious one of hewed logs. As the years rolled by he became well to do and influential in the community. After clearing his first farm of 80 acres he purchased a tract of 80 acres of prairie land and another place of similar dimensions in Randolph Twp. He was a Democrat in politics but not an aspirant to public office.
