Just an update to the previous...Nelson Stannard was born in Long Stratton, Norfolk, in approx 1798, son of Thomas Stannard and Anne. He referred to himself in various census returns as either Nelson or William Stannard (his son was William, and Nelon has been a 'family' name of ours ever since. I do believe, though, that he was actually baptised Horatio Nelson Stannard, as this couple did have a son, Horatio Nelson baptised in 1802. I'm sure it wasn't customary to give 2 children in the same family the same name (even a middle name) unless the older child had died!
So, I'd be interested in hearing from people who are researching this family from Long Stratton, Norfolk.
