Information from a death record of a Mrs. Harriet ?M.? EVERETT in the Town of Chenango,Broome Co.,NY. states that her parents were a Benjamin HARMON and an Elizabeth [STANARD} and that they were from Franklin,Del. CO.,NY. Franklin is a Township and a small village in Del.Co.,NY.Harriet [HARMON] married a George A. EVERETT about 1847 in Del.Co.,NY probably in either the Townships of Framklin or of Walton. I have used the Godfrey Library and NEHGS resources to the best of my ability trying to locate WHERE the STANARD surname might have 'migrated' from.It was not a common name in Del. Co.,nor in Broome Co.. Many persons after the REV.WAR came into the area from CT. Time frame: We are talking birth of daughter, Harriet, in 1820 within one year or so [by later census].So Eliz./ alias Betty [STANNARD] HARMON probably married a few years before that to HARMON if there were other children. No evidence of any brothers or sisters has been found in Del. Co.,NY nor have I located any 'hints' in family lore among the EVERETTS later to indicate further connections. One curious notation on the 1850 Census for Harriet and George EVERETT in the village of Sidney ,DEL.CO.,NY was a check which says 'colored'. There was a family of 'colored' in Del.Co. named HARMON,but there seem not to be any 'colored' descendants among us--so this likely was an error by the transcriber. ANY help with Stanards in Del. Co.,NY or the surrounding counties of Otsego,Schoharie,Greene,Broome,or from across the Delaware River in PA. would be welcome. I Or,if you know in New England where I might search for the Stanard surname ,that would be a likely steer as well. Thanks,Charlotte Sheldon Notify Administrator about this message?
