I have a confirmed ancestor, Sarah Sparrow, born in Depden, Suffolk, England on 08 April 1628. She later married Joseph Ray and moved to Worlingworth Suffolk.
According to the International Genealogical Index her siblings were: Mary, b. 26 August 1610; Elizabeth b. 14 October 1619; John, b. 07 February 1621; Bridget, b. 21 July 1624; Su, b. 09 August 1625; and Edmund, b. 04 September 1631, all in Depden. Their father’s name was Sam Sparrow. He was born in Depden on 22 February 1581 and married in about 1608. His father was John Sparrow born about 1560 in/at Gatisburie, , Suffolk and marrying about 1571.
When googling ‘Sparrow, Depden, Suffolk’ I came across information informing me of an Anthony Sparrow who became Bishop of Norwich and was described as having been born in Depden Suffolk, but baptised in Wickhambrook Suffolk, and a son of Samuel Sparrow, a well-to-do farmer of Depden Suffolk. According to the IGI this Anthony Sparrow was born in Depden Suffolk in 1612, died 27 May 1685, was a son of Sam Sparrow, and married Susanna Orell.
After googling ‘Gatisburie, Suffolk’ and following a lead from another researcher, I came to the conclusion it may be a reference to Gatesbury Farm in Depden Suffolk, near Hawkedon.
I am seeking information on Sparrow family members in the town of Depden in Suffolk in the 1500’s & 1600’s; knowledge that may confirm or refute my suspicion that my ancestor Sarah Sparrow and Anthony Sparrow, later Bishop of Norwich, may have been siblings; and any information on ‘Gatisburie’ or Gatesbury Farm in Depden Suffolk.
