I recently purchased the subject undated photos that are side-by-side contact prints made from the same negative. Each image measures one and a quarter inches square. In the first one the subject is wearing glasses and is frowning, and in the second one she is not wearing glasses and is smiling. The back of the mount is identified: "Helen Smith (Powell)" I am guessing that this individual is the Hellen [sic] D. Smith listed in the 1880 Census data for Precinct O, Seward Co., NE. I also found her listed as a divorced woman, working as a private nurse, in the 1920 Census data for San Diego (resided at 1018 Hendrick Street), San Diego Co., CA. She is listed in multiple four Public Member Trees and the "California Death Index, 1940-1997" posted on ancestry.com. She is included in the "Lineage Book--National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Volume XXX" (1899), where she is listed as Mrs. Helen Smith Powell, a descendant of Joseph Williams, Jr. Helen Deborah Smith was born 19 Dec 1868 in Seward Co., NE, and died 22 Jan 1941 in San Diego Co., CA. She was the daughter of a farmer, Charles Lyon Smith (1837-1919), and Sarah Maude Ecroyd (1842-1900). Her first husband was Crayton Kenneth Powell (1865?-1898), by whom she had one child, Grace Russell Powell (1888-1971). On 23 Jul 1906, Helen married Arthur James Chase (1878-1960), and this couple had three daughters (triplets?), two of whom evidently died in infancy--Adeline Watkins Chase (1908-1993), Alice Page Chase (1908-1908), and Helen Smith Chase (1908-1908).
