Thank you very much for the information. I have downloaded each of the Census to my laptop from Heritage Quest through my library. The questionable things are more with the Hiram Smiths. I do know Hiram Smith had a father Hiram Smith. Locating the older one is more difficult though the further back I go in the Census and records, due to Hiram being a very common name. Other spellings of Hiram that I have come across are Hyram, Hiraim, and Hyraim. These may not be the real spellings due to the Enumerator writing it down as he heard the pronunciation. I do know a lot of the family was buried in Rundells Cemetery, Conneautville, Crawford County, PA. Here you can find Elliot (Joseph Elliott, Elliott) Smith and his wife Nina G. Merchant-Smith-Adkins. Most of the family buried here is the Merchant and Carr sides of the family, but it is great information for tracing Nina's side of the family. Here is the link http://cvahs.org/cem/rndl . I hope this may be of some help to someone else. I have a feeling that Mary's maiden name was Elliot or Elliott due to Hiram and Mary's son being Elliot or Elliott or Joseph Elliott Smith. Often times the maiden name of the mother was used as the first or middle name of the child.
