Wish to connect and share with members of family of John and Minnie (MECHOW) SCHMIDT of Toledo, Ohio. I have only one child listed for them, George Albert SCHMITT who was born 3 Nov 1877 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio and died 1 Jul 1926 in San Francisco, Calif. George and his wife Edna M. (JEFFREY) were enumerated in the 1900 census of Toledo with a son Albert J., age 6/12 and their name was listed as SMITH.
By 1910, the family had moved to Claremore, Rogers, Oklahoma. Four children had been born to Edna, with two living at the time of the census: Albert J. age 10 and Ralph, age 2, born in Oklahoma (a daughter, Ethel lived 1902-1903 and a daughter Emma lived 1905-1906). Also listed with the family in 1910 was Edna's sister, Doris JEFFREY.
In 1920, the family was living in Fresno, California and were enumerated with two sons at home, Ralph S. age 11 and Lewis M. age 9, Albert having moved to the home of Henry BANTA, whose daughter, Audrey Mary BANTA, Albert married about 1923.
George A. SCHMITT committed suicide in 1926 and son Melvin died about 1930. There are several John and Mina SCHMIDTS and SCHMITTS in various censuses, but without knowing the names of any of George's siblings, nearly impossible to extend this line. Does anyone know anything of this family? Thanks in advance for assistance.
