I am searching, so far without luck, for my maternal gr-grandparents, Nicholas Schmit, (Schmidt?) and his wife Anna Becker. Nicholas immigrated from Grevenmacher, Luxembourg sometime in the late 1800's. He settled in Cleveland, Ohio where he married. Anna was probably from Germany, and that is all I know about her.
They had three surviving children, John Philip, Philip John, and my maternal grandmother, Mary Catherine Gertrude. Because of her brother's unusual names, my grandmother wondered if her mother was connected somehow with the Marxist revolutionary John Philip Becker.
I have had my mt-DNA analyzed, which comes from Anna Becker, and am very interested in learning anything about that line.
