I purchased the subject undated studio portrait of a middle-aged man taken by Geleng's, Oshkosh, WI. It is identified on the back of the mount (this may have been transferred from an album page):

"Uncle Charlie Schmidt"

I believe this individual is the Charles Schmidt listed in the 1900 and 1910 Census data for Oshkosh, Winnebago Co., WI. He was born Mar 1841 in Germany and immigrated in 1860. In about 1863, he married Fredricka (maiden name unknown), born Aug 1843 in Germany, immigrated in 1852. This couple had 10 children, 7 still living in 1900 and 5 still living in 1910. Among the children (all born in WI) were Albert, born Feb 1864; William, born May 1869; Otto, born Dec 1871; and Edward, born Sep 1879. In 1900, the family resided at 60 17th Street. In 1910, the family resided at 416 17th Street.
