A. von Schmidt, Agnes and John S. Smith

Can anyone please help me establish that A. von Schmidt of Gattendorf ( "Couple Village" in English) near Hof, Bavaria married Agnes born 1797 and fathered John S. Smith of West Newton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania born 1824/25? The 1850 census has John's parents listed incorrectly as being born in Pennsylvania and John incorrectly also as being born in Pennsylvania. I think that there is a ship's passenger list somewhere that has Agnes Schmidt bringing her son Johan to the port of Philadelphia (probably)between 1824 and 1835 or 1840 or so. Probably from Bavaria but possibly from Russia since the Daddy, A. von Schmidt took a job in Russia. I don't know if Agnes and baby John would have gone to St. Petersburg with A. or not and I think that the "A" stands for "Anton" von Schmidt but I'm not sure and I think that the "S" in John S. Smith stands for "Sebastian" or possibly "Schmidt" but I am not sure. Please help.
