Posting this because I hope to find other branches of this family. St. Louis Post-Dispatch, obituaries: "SCHMIDT, John -- 4148A Grove st., entered into rest Thurs., Aug. 1, 1935, 3 a.m., beloved husband of the late Julia Schmidt (nee Peischel), dear father of Mrs. Louis C. Schaeperkoetter and Mrs. John Bocklitz, Mrs. Louis Wingerter, Mrs. William Herman, Mrs. Carl Grizzle, Mrs. George Herman, Frank and George Schmidt, dear brother of Frank Schmidt, our dear grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle." "Funeral Mon., Aug. 5, 2 p.m., from Math. Hermann & Son's Chapel, Fair and West Florissant ave. Interment Calvary Cemetery." Note: John's children do not seem to be listed in birth order because I believe Mrs. John (Frieda) Bocklitz was actually his youngest so she really should have been listed last. I am descended from Mrs. Louis (Emma) Schaeperkoetter, Frieda's half sister, and suspect that Emma was the second youngest. But I really don't know with any certainty the birth order of any of John's children other than Emma in relation to Frieda. I also don't know if John's brother, Frank, was younger or older than John. John's tombstone at Calvary says he was born May 21, 1860. I don't know the exact year John immigrated to the US (between 1880 to 1884) or where he came from other than "Germany". 1902 Illinois marriage license for John and Julia indicated that this marriage was the first marriage for Julia and the third for John. It also said that John and Julia lived in Granite City, IL, not St. Louis, MO. I found John and Julia in the 1930 and 1920 census for St. Louis but have not been able to find either of them in any earlier census either in Missouri or Illinois. Frieda and Emma were the only children living in the Schmidt household in 1920. Not sure where John's other children were. Perhaps they had already moved out, married, and were living in households of their own? Just guessing, however. If any of the above sounds familiar, I would love to discuss it, see if we can get some things figured out. Notify Administrator about this message?
