Colette Schmidt was born on September 25, 1937 in Currie, Minnesota to Perne B. and Bernice Lynch Silvernale. She grew up in Currie and graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary High School. Following high school Colette attended Minneapolis Business College. Colette then worked in Washington, DC for two years. On August 30, 1958 she and Jerry Peschges were marred at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie. Following their marriage they farmed north of Currie. In 1962 they moved in to Currie. In 1968 they bought and operated the Ma-Pa-Loma Lanes until 1983. Colette worked at the Currie State Bank for 42 years. Jerry passed away in April 1990. On December 27, 1991 she and Paul H. Schmidt of Sleepy Eye were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. They made their home in Currie during the summer and wintered in Mesa, AZ. Colette retired in September 1999 but remained on the Board of Directors. Colette passed away on October 7, 2007 at the Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN at the age of 70. She was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. Colette was president, past president, treasurer and secretary of the Winona Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (WCCW). She was awarded the Bishop Catholic Action Medal for her many years of dedicated service to the church. Colette served on the Murray County Hospice Board, Murray County Hospital Board, and the Currie Town and Country Board. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, golfing and the sunshine immensely.
Survivors include her husband, Paul H. Schmidt of Currie, MN, five children and their spouses, Michael Peschges of Currie, MN, Renee and Doug Rehnelt of Currie, MN, Shannon and Don Struchen of Webster City, IA, Ramona and Carl Lindberg of Slayton, MN, and Brenda Johnson of Slayton, MN, 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three step-children and their spouse, Jeri and Jerome Lensing,of Rochester, MN, Jeffery Schmidt of Denver, CO, and Scott and Deanna Schmidt of St. Michael, MN, six step-grandchildren, her mother, Bernice Reiter of Tracy, MN, one brother, Sherwood Silvernale and his wife, Jeanette of Currie, MN, and one sister, Aljean Ackerman and her husband, Robert of Mankato, MN. She is preceded in death by her father, Perne, first husband, Jerry Peschges, infant daughter, Mary Alice Peschges, and two brothers, James and Perne A. (Tack) Silvernale.
Memorial Services will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, MN on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 10:30 AM with Fr. Bob Horihan officiating. The organist is Patty LeClaire with special music by Kathy Jo Johns and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Choir. The pallbearers are her grandsons, Michael F. Peschges, Perne R. Struchen, Travis W. Schwarz, Tanner J. Struchen, Cole A. DeGreeff, Luke S. Johnson, Nicholas A. Lensing, and Paul W. Schmidt. Interment at Calvary Cemetery Currie, MN. Family prefers memorials to American Caner Society or Murray County Hospice.
