Robert George Schmidt (if that is his real name)is my GG Grandfather and a mystery. He disappeared in 1936 in LaGrange GA. He was very secretive. All we know is he was born in NY. His parents came from Germany. A sister was possibly buried in Germany. He left home at 17 and went to Ca. and was there during the Great 1906 earthquake. He then came to Ga and married Cora Emma (Emmer?) Lee Johnson. Year unknown. They lived in Hogansville Ga. Had a daughter who married abt 1935. In 1936 he took a train (20-miles)into LaGrange to pay taxes and never returned home. We do know that the taxes were paid the day he disappeared. He never gave any information to anyone not even his family. He named his daughter Ruby Anna - he did say Anna was part of his mothers name? I have no timeline such as birthdate, parent emigration, names, nothing. He just never gave any information. Has anyone ever heard of this man? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
