My grandfather was Frederick C.Schimdt, son of William (Wilhelm) Schmidt and Theresa Cornrumph. Frederick C. was from Prussia as was Theresa. Frederick was born in 1836, Theresa in 1843. They immigrated to Chicago prior to 1870. The 1870 census for Howe ST (just N of Norht Ave) shows my ggrandfather WM(34), Theresa(27), Reinholt (4), &d Ida (3). Also in the same house was a Fred (46), Hanna (27), Karl (14), Herman (4), and Reinholt (36). Perhaps the Fred, older Reinholt, and WM (my ggrandfather) and perhaps others were brothers. My ggrandather WM & family lived in 1880 on Orchard St. just N of North Ave. They also lived on Howe ST at one time. Their children were Reinhart (1866), Ida (1867), William (1870), Freddie (1872), Theresa (1877), & Louis (1879)) according to the 1880 census. The Wm C. Jr. drown in the Chicago River in 1891. Both Howe and Orchard St were within 2 or 3 blocks of the limt of the 1871 Chicago Fire. Maybe there is some info of interest for you here.
