Our family cmae from the Hessen region of Germany and it is belived from the Darmstadt area of Hessen - near Frankfurt. The original spelling of our name was Schleucher, but Dr. Pleve spelled it Schleicher on the family tree. He used Schleicher because it was predominately spelled Schleicher in the church records. However, my lineage spelled it Schleucher in the church records. Also, my grandfather spelled it Schleucher on all of his immigration documents until he was naturalized at which time he changed it to Schleuger. His brothers that immigrated to America also changed the spelling from Schleucher to Schleuger.
