Just in case this statement causes confusion-- by "linking" we certainly do not mean any formal transfer between Family Tree DNA and Ancestry. There is definitely no transfer of personal information or results between the two (unless the owner of the data does it themselves).

By "linking", we simply mean that the information on FTDNA and on the completely independent Ancestry boards is organized in a similar manner. This similar organization will assist those who wish to avail themselves of both DNA groups.
