Hi. Thanks for your followup.
Heres some more information I have on Martin and Lupe Ruiz. This is a letter my grandma recently wrote to me, regarding the Ruiz side of my family:
"Grandma Guadalupe came from a very strict family who, while not wealthy, had enough money to live well. She was sent to a private school and was well educated for the times. However, she met a young man with whom she loped, and was married at age 15, which caused quite a furor with her family, especially with her grandmother who, it seems, ruled the roost. Grandpa Martin, at the age of 16, joined the army under Pancho Villa and became a 'teniente' (Lieutenant). It was there that he met a young man whose name was Leos. They became very good friends. Sr. Leos told Martin about his wife and three children, and about his fear of being killed in battle and leacing his family. He asked young Martin to see that Lupe and the children were taken care of if this should happen. Martin agreed to do so. As luck would have it, Leos was killed and Martin was badly wounded. While he recovered he thought a lot about his promise to his friend. So when he was able to do so, he looked for Lupe and her children. He saw that they were taken care of, and soon they fell in love and were married. When the pair decided to come to the States, Martin began to look for work across the border. He learned that the railroads were looking for workers, so he investigated and found that Ohio was a good place, especially the Toledo area, which at the time was a large center for the railroads. He promised Lupe he would send for her and the children (two girls and a boy - named Carmen, Soledad and Alfonso). True to his promise, he made the necessary arrangements and sent her money for herself, the children and the nanny. However, the night before they were to cross, they were robbed and the nanny lost her papers, as well as her money. Lupe and the children managed to make it across the river and Martin sent more money to bring them to Toledo. They later had six more children, Jesse (my grandfather), Gregorio, Natalia, Isabel, Mary and Martin. All but Natalie and Mary are deceased."
It does not appear that we have a Victor Ruiz in the family, but it is possible that one of the boys (Alfonso, Gregorio, or Martin) may have gone by Victor, if that was a middle name or something. Do you know if that might be possible?
