Hi Susan,

Thomas Rideout was born in 1795 in Brunswick County, Va., the son of Giles and Elizabeth (Fort) Rideout. Giles and Elizabeth were married in 1792.

Thomas served a 6 month stint in a Virginia militia unit during the War of 1812 as did several of his Rideout cousins. He received a pension for his services.

The Rideout and Butts families were close friends going back to Virginia. Thomas'uncle, William Rideout, married Martha L. Butts in 1814.

I have copies of the Robert Baskin collection from East Tenn. State University. Mr. Baskin was a descendant of Thomas and spent many years researching the family. He even had a picture of Thomas. There is quite a bit of paperwork, but I can send you copies if you desire. Just shoot me your address.
