REID Genealogy using Y-chromosome Tests

Yes the test is free but Sorenson will not give you the test results.

As the names Reed, Reid, Read and other variants are so prolific, it makes sense for those tracing their lineage to join the Reid Reed Read Group:

If a male Reid takes a 46-marker Y-chromosome test (which simply involves ordering a test kit and returning swabs to the lab) the results provide a reliable means of comparison with the results of all other male Reids tested previously to show scientifically how closely they are related.

The Y-chromosome is inherited almost unchanged from earlier generations so comparison of test results show if two people with the same surname are related and how many generations ago they are likely to have common ancestors.
