Francois-Marie Prevost was originally from southern France where he was born in 1771. In 1800 he was a public health official at Port-de-Paix (St. Domingue, West Indies - now called Haiti). The following year he went to Louisiana where he setled near Donaldsonville on the west bank of the Mississippi River(about 100 miles upstream from New Orleans)where he performed Louisiana's first Caesarean birth. This information is from "The Road to Louisiana: The Saint-Domingue Refugees, 1792-1809" edited by Carl Brasseaux and Glenn Conrad, Center for LA Studies, Univ. of Southwestern LA, Lafayette, LA., 1992. That is all I know, but would be interested in learning more about this family to connect with other LA Prevosts who came to LA from St. Domingue.
