David, I'm replying to your message # 768 on Frances "France" Eliphaz Prater, who was son of my g-grandparents, Holloway "Hollie/Holly" P. & Malinda [not Malinder]"Linda" Lucinda Valentine (Sanders) Prater of Clifton, TN [her father was Tom Sanders, mother's name unk.], & bro. to my grandfather, James "Jim T./Jim Hollie" Thomas Prater, Clifton, TN. France was m. twice. 1st - Rachel Prater, b. Dec. 13, 1873 & was a cousin to France. They m. May 31, 1889, Wayne Co., TN. & had 4 child.: 1.Cora Edith; 2. William King "King"; 3. Sanuel "Sam" Oliver; & 4. Malinda Lynn "Lynn". Rachel d. Aug. 10, 1900, prob. Wayne Co., TN. She is bur, in the Boyd Cem., now called Ning Prater Cem., rural Clifton, TN. She was the dau. of Ning & Permelia Ann Battles (Walker) Prater. One source told me she d. in childbirth. I'm not certain that this is true or not but is possible. France m. 2nd, Margaret "Callie" Wilson, Jan. 23, 1902, Wayne Co. My grandfather, above, helped F. & C. move to MS. in 2 covered wagons. Source, my mother, who is still living at 93 & has helped me reconstruct this fam. F. & C. child. are: 1. Nettie A.; 2. Ily Leonard; 3. Edith Marie & 4. Kate. Mother said they had Nettie A. (I had 1906 only) & Ilie (I had 1912- both dates based on the 1910 & 1920 c. Mother didn't know about these other children as she lost touch when she moved to Memphis aft. grad. fr. Frank Hughes College. (Note. I got the other children fr. Benjamin's reply to you, 11/11/01. I'll have to ask him what his source was. They appear to be correct.) I have France b. Oct. 18, 1866, Wayne Co.(Source: Funeral Rec.), d. Oct. 9, 1962 in Booneville, MS at N. E. Mississippi Hosp. acc. to his Funeral Rec. which I have a copy of.)F. is bur. in Mt. Pleasant Cem., Booneville, MS. You mentioned son, James. From what I have been told & researched, France never had a son, James. He did have William King "King", above. I got a lot of my infor. on this 1st fam. from Dorothy (Prater) Hutcheson Wolf of Lebanon, MO. She is the dau. of William King. I also don't have a Dorothy as dau. of France, unless you are refer. to the Dorothy, dau. of King, above.
You mentioned that your Dorothy lived in Campbell,MO. I have corresponded with her. She claimed to me that her father was Eliphaz, b. 1850 in Wayne Co., & had bros, King & Ning. The father of Ning & King were Brice Bazel "Baze" & Martha Elizabeth (Riley) Prather/Prater who settled in Wayne Co. by 1818 when son, King Prater was b. Brice had a son, Eliphaz but he was b. in 1809 in Warren Co., KY, not 1850 as she claims. My g-g-g-grandfather, Samuel Prater(father of Hollie, above) had a son, Eliphaz, also sp. Eliphus & Elifus who was b. ca, 1859, prob. rural Clifton. He went with his parents to Searcy Co., AR, 1870 C., & was in Stone Co., AR in 1880. He homesteaded land by his mother's homesteaded land in Stone Co. & m. Dempsey A. Prater in Mt. View, AR, Dec. 2, 1877. This Eliphaz sounds more like the poss. father of this Dorothy of Campbell, MO. I told her this but she would't accept it as a possibility. Acc. to her, her father left Wayne Co. in his early teens, & at some place & time ended up in Mo & TX where he died & is buried in an unmarked grave. Dorothy's father was m. twice. She was the child by his 1st marr. I believe we are talking about the same Dorothy of Campbell, MO. She sent me a lot of infor on her father & family. She never opened up to any other possibilities, so I just filed her infor. for now until a connection could be found for her. I really wanted to help her if I could! Must go! Hope I've helped you some! Carolyn
