This is the response that I got when I asked my journalist friend to see what she could find out about Katherine.
I have not tried to link to the column mentioned yet, but I will, and I hope someone else will try also.
"We found an answer -- in a San Francisco Chronicle column, April 1, by Leah
Garchik. I'd link it to you but I don't know how. She talks to HRH's estate
executor. It's as you suspected, a lot of heritage but not much royal
lifestyle. She did have a crown, but who knows whether it came from
Nordstrom or her grandma. She was born in Newton, IL., however, which
explains the Trib-Star's three days of her obit. It ran in several other
papers, too, and in the Chronicle, of course."
