SPRINGFIELD - Howard H. Braverman, 83, of Springfield died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at St. John's Hospital. He was born Oct. 27, 1922, in New York City, the son of Edward and Gladys Nosser Braverman. He married Margaret A. Peckham in 1956 in Peoria. Mr. Braverman attended Brown University in Providence, R.I., and Boston University Law School and earned a law degree from New York Law School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a lawyer and was admitted to practice in New York in 1950, Illinois in 1966 and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1975. He practiced in New York and Chicago and became of member of the staff of the Illinois State Bar Association in 1967, serving as general counsel, associate executive director and executive director. He retired as executive director emeritus. He then served as director of the Illinois Bar Foundation until 1994. He was a life fellow with the American Bar Association and a registered lobbyist in the Illinois General Assembly for the Illinois State Bar and Chicago Bar Association. He was a member of St. Paul's Lodge 500 AF&AM and Hope Presbyterian Church and a senior life member of the Sangamo Club. Survivors: wife, Margaret, two cousins and many nieces and nephews. Services: 5 p.m. Sunday, Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel. Interment: 10 a.m. Monday, Camp Butler National Cemetery. Notify Administrator about this message?
