First get your birth certificate to verify your oral history. Next get your parent's marriage license. Then your father's birth certificate. Each of the above should cost no more than $50. My parent's marriage certificate cost about $10. My father's birth certificate cost about $15 Canadian. These should give you leads on where to get more information. Social Security information is obtainable for people who were born more than 100 years prior to the request otherwise, you would need thier signed permission. Check the SS web site. Google for it. Any unusual names to do web searches on. Try "dogpile" for searching as it uses several search engines. Good luck, I know what you are going through.
