I'm in Canada, from a PACE family of Shareshill parish in Staffordshire and don't claim to be connected to your PACE family in north Yorkshire. What is surprising to me, and why I write, is about my paternal grandmother and her MASON family from the same place in Yorkshire as your PACE family. Annie ARCH was my grandmother. Her mother was a Maria MASON, her father, William ARCH who died in 1912 at Middlesborough, Yorkshire. In checking the parish registers of Stainton In Cleveland, Eston, Thornaby On Tees, Yorkshire which seem to be in the Middlesborough urban area, I notice a considerable number of MASON Christenings & marriages in all these three parishes. I do not know anything about the MASON family of my grandmother's mother, Maria MASON but it does look rather interesting to me now. I do know, from old photos in my grandmother's 1890s album, which I have here, that pictures were taken by photographers in Grangetown and Wakefield. I do not know the marriage location of William ARCH and Maria MASON but their daughter, my grandmother, Annie ARCH married Charles Vicarage PACE at Walsall, Staffordshire in 1898. Fourteen years later, 1812, her father died at Middlesborough. I reason that the ARCH and MASON families at Middlesborough, must have had some connection. I just find it most interesting that the PACE family of north Yorkshire was possibly in the same parish. I have known for some time that this is the family of the famous Captain James COOK. Another PACE researcher in Australia sent me this info. I have been collecting PACE family info from the UK. Anyway, I'd be happy to hear any comment you may have, on this seemingly coincidental, PACE MASON ARCH occurance in these Middlesborough parishes. Maybe there is more to all of this, than what I know, at the moment.I am also from a DODSWORTH family in Canada but ancestors are originally from Yorkshire too. I have several web pages at - http://www.phc.igs.net/~gordpace/ - Gordon Thomas PACE in Ontario Canada
