I am looking for someone who might know about Sophina and what Sophina maiden name is. Pinkney seems to be a family name but so far I have been unable to match it up. Sophina is spelled several different ways. 1. Francis M.1 Kidd Sr. was born 1807 in Lancaster, Virginia, and died Bet. 1860 - 1870 in Arkansas or Texas. He married Sophina Abt. 1832 in Missouri. She was born 1817 in Kentucky, and died February 11, 1873 in Horsehead, Johnson, Arkansas. Notes for Francis M. Kidd: 1820 Census of Lancaster, VA has a Francis C. Kidd listed. In 1830, Arkansas had 22 counties. In the 1830 census, there is a William Kidd, b.1806, from Virginia, living in the Pulaski District of the Arkansas Territory. His wife, Sarah, b.1824, is from Kentucky. Both same background as Francis and Sophina. They have one boy under age 5, 2 daughters under 5, 2 daughter between 5 and 10, and 1 daughter between 15 and 20. In 1850, William Kidd, and Sarah, live in Planters, Phillips, AR.. no children. Arkansas became a state in 1836. In 1840, Arkansas had 38 counties. In 1840 Census, (Roll 19, Page 44) Francis M. Kidd is in Buffalo Fork, Planters, Marion County, Arkansas (next to Missouri border). He and his wife are both between the age of 30 and 40, he has 1 boy under 5, and 1 girl between 5 and 10 years old. There is no trace of this family in the 1850 Census. In 1860, Arkansas had 55 counties. Arkansas seceded from the Union in 1861. In 1860, Francis is listed as T.M. Kidd, age 52, in Tarrant P.O., Hopkins County, Texas. His place of birth is stated as Louisiana and his occupation as Wheelwright. Wife's name is spelled Sophina, or Sophira, age 42. Children are Perry, 19; Beverly, 13; Frances 9; Louisa, 7. Series: M653 Roll: 1297 Page: 184 Arkansas is readmitted to the Union in 1868. In 1870, Arkansas has 61 counties. In 1870 Census, Sophina is living with son, Beverly in Horsehead Township, Johnson County, Arkansas. Beverly is married to Martha Ann Mauldin. Sophina's children, Frances, age 17, and Louisa, age 14, are also living there. Frances Sr. had apparently died. Mauldin's live next door. Film Series: M593 Roll: 57 Page: 39. Louisa Kidd married John Mauldin in 1876. In 1880, Arkansas has 74 counties. NOTE: In 1810 Census of Amelia, Virginia, there is a George and Jasper Kidd. George is the older, and has a wife, 3 sons, and 1 daughter. Jasper is married, but with no children, and also has an older woman living in his house, perhaps his mother. Could these be relatives to Francis M. Kidd Sr., and perhaps the reason he gave two of his children these names? Notes for Sophina: In 1870 Census of Johnson County, AR., Sofira is reported as not being able to read or write. Safira's birth date was reported in 1870 census as 1814. On March 23, 2005, Johnson County Librarian found a death record in the Arkansas Gazetteer for a Mrs. Kidd, died February 11, 1873, followed by the number 56. The librarians believed this number represents the age at death. This would put her birth date prior to February 11, 1817. According to the 1860 Census in Hopkins County, Texas, taken August 24, Sophina was age 42, thus putting her birth date prior to August 25, 1818. On February 11, 1873, Sophina would have been 56 if she were born between August 25, 1817 and February 11, 1818. In 1870 Census for state of Arkansas, there were no other women with Kidd sir name even close to the birth date of 1817/18. Children of Francis Kidd and Sophina are: 2 i. Kidd2, born 1834 in Missouri. 3 ii. Jasper Kidd, born 1836 in Missouri. 4 iii. William Kidd, born 1839 in Marion County, Arkansas. Notes for William Kidd: William was supposedly younger that Perry. On the 1860 census, Perry was listed as age 19, b. 1841. William was not listed. Where was William Kidd in 1860. 5 iv. Perry Kidd, born 1841 in Marion County, Arkansas. Notes for Perry Kidd: Perry is listed on the 1860 census in Hopkins County, Texas at age 19, putting his birth date at 1841. 6 v. Rosetta Kidd, born 1842 in Marion County, Arkansas. + 7 vi. Beverly Pinkney Kidd, born February 04, 1847 in Fulton County, Arkansas; died January 09, 1928 in Hydro, Caddo, Oklahoma. 8 vii. John Kidd, born 1849 in Fulton County, Arkansas. He married Hula T. Wells 1874 in Clark County, Arkansas. Notes for John Kidd: If John is correctly placed as Francis M. Kidd's child, he must have died young because he does not show up on the 1860 census, when he would have been only about 11 yrs. old. + 9 viii. Francis Marion Kidd, born January 06, 1851 in Fulton County, Arkansas; died November 19, 1913 in Price Chapel Township, Sequoyah, OK. + 10 ix. Louisa E. Kidd, born September 1853 in Fulton County, Arkansas; died 1941 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Notify Administrator about this message?
