I believe her surname is "SEARS" not "GEARS". In the old style writing, the way they wrote an "S" can be mistaken for a "G". Mary had a son ADAM SEARS HUNSINGER, which would indicate his middle name was from her surname. Charles Grigsby had land on the Green River as well as Cypress creek and was a neighbor of Mathias Hunsinger, making a connection to Mary Sears Hunsinger. Mary's father, Johannes Sears/Zahers was in Rowan Co., NC as well, and the Sears family moved to KY before 1800.
Charles and Mary moved to Indiana abt 1821. Adam Sears Hunsinger and Charles Grigsby both had land in Sec. 34, Twp3, Range 9E in White Co., IN.
While this is circumstantial evidence, I truly believe Mary's maiden name was SEARS.
Sharon
