I have recently had a recurrence of the above well known problem. After trying the fix which previously worked, viz. run 'msconfig' in Windows operating system, and turn off ALL startup programmes, which did not cure the problem, I remembered I had installed 'Trusteer Rapport' recently. This is an On-line banking fraud prevention software package, which I downloaded from my bank's website.
The good news is, having uninstalled it, the disappearing data didn't any more.
Has anyone else reported this?
