Thank you both for your thoughtful responses. I had assumed any responses would be emailed to me, but perhaps that's not the case, as I don't remember reading either one prior to today!

Anyway, I got a mild scolding from my D'Arcy uncle when he found the post I made on this site. He says that that version of the story is not true, & my great-grandfather's arrival in this country was not nearly as scandalous as I had portrayed.

Fascinating to hear about the Catholic & French Court connotations. There do indeed seem to be some characters associated with the name, even from my own experience! :)

And I remember my uncle saying something about 2 other brothers that went south, so... you may be onto something with the Georgia Darsey theory!
