William R. Childress of Charlotte Co. Virginia

I don't know if William R. had any children named Alex or Thomas after 1850 because he does not appear in the 1860 census. He lived in Pittsyvania county in 1870. He had fought in the Civil War and moved away from Charlotte county. Do you know if Alex's parents were William R. and Mary Childress? It could be a possibility that Thomas and Alex were the sons of William R. I believe that the father of William R. was named Thomas also but I'm not for sure.
He had named his son Stephen after a relation of his so your Thomas could be William R.'s son.
