I am looking for anyone who might be able to tell me more about a Thomas A. Childress who enlisted in the Army Air Forces in 1942 at Ft. Benjamin Harrison.
According to his enlistment records, Childress was born in 1914 and was from Lawrence Co., IN. He appears to have served in a National Guard Unit or regular Army before enlisting again in the Air Corps in September, 1942.
Thomas A. Childress was a tail gunner with the 381st Bomb Group in England during WW-II. He served as a tail gunner on a B-17 flown by my father in the summer of 1943.
It appears that S/Sgt. Childress survived the war as there is no listing of him in his unit's casualty roster.
I would like to ascertain the fate of Sgt. Childress for a unit history I am writing.
