Hi, Jerry,

Family Tree and Ancestry both offer DNA tests.

My AS7E project, which includes all Childers/Childress who belong to Haplogroup I1 and subgroup AS7E, is hosted by Ancestry.

Ancestry offers two Y-DNA tests; I think the 46 marker test is the better value, although it is the more expensive of the two:

This link will tell you more about DNA testing.

There is also a Childers/Childress project at Family DNA which is open to anyone with the name Childers or Childress. It turns out that not everyone with these surnames belongs to AS7E . Although the AS7E Childers do claim descent from Abraham, I don't think anyone yet has proof of that descent.

Family Tree offers several different Y-DNA tests, and if you decide to be tested there, I would recommend the 37 marker test, or 67 markers if you don't mind the added expense:

Whichever company you choose, be sure to order a Y-DNA test, which is for men only and traces the male line.

If it turns out you are AS7E, I hope you will join my AS7E Project at Ancestry. Membership costs nothing and you don't have to be tested at Ancestry or buy a subscription from Ancestry in order to join Ancestry projects.

Here's the link to my project.

If you are AS7E, you should also write to Patrick Childress because he will want to add your results to his database:

Patrick and some of the others listed on his website also belong to my AS7E project, but his website, like my project, is for AS7E Childers/Childress only.

THere are advantages and disadvantages to either choice:

1. Family Tree will not accept those tested by Ancestry or any other testing company in its projects, but if you choose Family Tree you will automatically be eligible to join the Childers project there and you may also join my AS7E Project at Ancestry if you are AS7E.

2. If you choose Ancestry and are not AS7E, however, then you couldn't join the Childers project at Family Tree and there isn't a Childress/Childers project at Ancestry right now. My project is the only Ancestry project for Childers/Childress, but is restricted to those who are AS7E.

3. Ancestry's prices are lower.

4. Family Tree offers the highest resolution test (ie 67 markers).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Lindsey
