I need some help finding an ancestor of mine, Mary Stannard. She married William Butcher 18 Feb 1734, Lowestoft, Suffolk. That is all I know about her. If anyone knows of her birth, ancestry, etc., I would appreciate the info. Stannard is an original surname from Suffolk, according to Reaney's Dictionary of British Surnames. It is from OE Stanehard, 'stone hard.' Variations include: Stanard, Stanhert, Stanhert, Stanart, Stanhart, Stonhard, Stonnard, Stonard, Stonerd, Stannert, Stannett. While researching another surname, I noticed that there were quite a few Stannard names in Wilby, Suffolk. Hope this helps someone.
