I am looking for information on a Robert Albert Schleicher born ca 1862 in NYC to a Gertrude (possibly Selig) and a ??? Schleicher. Robert was born in NYC and later moved to Brooklyn as a young child. There his mother married a John Menninger. I do not know what happened to Robert's father.

At some point after 1890, Robert took on his step father's name of Menninger. Both Robert and John Menninger are found in the Brooklyn directories of 1888-89 and 1889-90. Robert and John Menninger were in the mineral water business. At sometime, a bowling alley was also openned. The mineral water business was possibly known as Menninger & Son.

Robert married a Bertha Dietrich also of Brooklyn who lived across the street from the Menningers on Varet Ave. Robert had four children: Robert Albert Jr., Edward F., Margaurite (Margaret) and Gertrude. The first two children more than likely were born with the last name Schleicher. The two girls probably had the Menninger last name.

Sometime around 1898 Robert now Menninger moved to Detroit, MI and there established the first bowling alley in Detroit in 1898, the Columbia.

I have all the descendents to date but have hit a solid brick wall on Robert's parents (the Schleichers). Any help would be more than appreciated.
