Since my original post last year, I have had little luck in finding related US Schleichers. Out of NYC the 3 relatives I am stopped at are Carl August Ludwig SCHLEICHER, b 1826 in Gustrow, d. Davenport, IA 1889. His daughter Otillie Fredricka Augusta b.1860, Gustrow. His son Carl Wilhelm Heinrich, b. 1855 Gustrow. I have found them all in ships records, but nothing further. In Germany the Schleicher line in Gustrow seems to end with Carl's father Christian Carl Freiderich b. abt 1800 in Gustrow. I have found ancestors of Christian's wife's family in Gustrow back to the 1680 including the names DRESCHLER, RACHOW, SIGGELKOW, SCHALL, GROSSMAN & SCHUMACHER. There are tempting Schleicher links in Berlin but nothing positive. I have found my Schleichers to be very illusive. There are family "legends" of a von in the name, and stories that they "might" have had to leave for military or religous reasons - but only wisps - nothing positive. They all left Gustrow around 1879. Am reposting in the hopes someone will recognize a name in the US or have ancestors from the Mecklenberg-Schwerin region. Other towns in the region are Butzow,Goldberg,Schwaan, Suckow.
