I was interested in your queries concerning the Ruch family which is part of my husband's family and was delighted to see that you have found that Catherine's maiden name was Stamer. Did you find the marriage certificate?

Over the years, I have not worked on this family much, but do have some notes that my father-in-law recorded from his father concerning the family. Most of the information has been verified by census or church records. I do have listings of children.

RUCH FAMILY: Rememberances of George E. Walk: John Ruch, who was in the 1812 War, was a cordwainer (shoemaker) and was born about 1788 in PA. He married Catherine ca. 1803. He had relatives in various places in PA. After their marriage, they moved to W. Manheim Twp. in York Co., PA. All their children were baptized in the Lutheran and Reformed Churches.

My files show that Catherine was born March 18, 1782 in PA and that she died April 11, 1869 in Amanada, Butler Co., OH. Rachel Ruch was born April 1, 1809 in Little York, York Co., PA.

WARNER FAMILY: Rememberances of George E. Walk: The Warners moved from PA to Butler Co., OH, Amanda Villiage, now Excello. There were relatives in the area of Red Lion, Lebanon, OH. John Warner was a Mason so when the Shakers started their village at Lebanon, he walked the 12 miles to and from each day. When they came to OH, Rachel's mother and sister, Elizabeth, came with them.

Butler Co., Lemon, OH, History, p. 659: states that John Warner and Rachel Rush came in 1820. In the same article about Michael Simpson, it says that his wife Ellen Warner, daughter of John and Rachel, was born in Lewis Co., West Virginia, on June 13, 1822.

John Warner's father was Charles Warner, who was in the Revolutionary War. The Historical Society of York Co. has the records of St. David's Lutheran and Reformed Church, West Manheim Twp., York Co., PA, the children of Charles and Elisabeth Warner are recorded.

Charles's father was John Warner. Rememberances of George E. Walk: Immigrant from England. Legend has it he stowed away on a ship at the age of 14. His brothers were either on board or already in America.

WALK FAMILY: Rememberances of George E. Walk: As a young man Isaac Walk moved to Middleton, OH, where he met and married Rachel Warner. Harry, Charles, and Edgar were born there. In 1865, they moved to Bethany, OH, where they lived until 1889 and where the reat of their children were born. Sometime in 1889, they bought a farm in Eaton, OH. Isaac retired in 1902 and moved to Munice, IN, where he died 2 Feburary 1904.
