Dear Geri,

I was quite interested to see your post, especially mention of a Carrigan who died in Cabarrus Co., NC.

My 6th great grandparents were James Carrigan (c.1714/6-1793) and Isabel Brown (c.1726-1804) who are said to have come from Cootehill, County Cavan (or County Monahan), Ireland, to America in the 1750s.

Legend has it that they came first to Pa., then came down through Va. into NC, settling first in "the Hawfields" (Orange/Alamance Co.) and then settling at Coddle Creek, which is on the border between Cabarrus and Iredell Counties. They are buried at the Coddle Creek Presbyterian (ARP) Church. And my grandfather was born in that same area, and attended that church when he was a child.

My line down from them goes as follows:

James Carrigan & Isabell Brown
James Carrigan & Margaret, maiden name unknown
Mary Carrigan (c.1799-bef.1850)& William S. Van Pelt
Mary Jane Van Pelt (1831-1905) & Levi Bell (1812-1893)
Mary Rhetta Bell (1862-1947) & Ernest Marion Field (1866-1902)
John Levi Field (1899-1963) my grandfather. I never knew him as he died before I was born.

I'd be pleased to compare notes with you.

Best Regards,
