An 1890 coroner's report shows that James L. Carpenter's father was John B. Carpenter -- "James L. Carpenter, son of the deceased, writes from Siloam Springs, Ark. [Benton Co. AR], under date of August 2. Among other things he says his "father was formerly a man in good circumstances and a man of some note when he lived in Effingham county, Ill." A John B. Carpenter married on 8 Sep 1881 in Benton Co. AR to Mary J. Mott. In the same report as James' letter, Mrs. Anna M. Nokes, of Cincinnati, Ark. [Washington Co. AR], wrote: "I expect the deceased was my father. ... I heard he was in Springfield and supposed he had gone to my stepmother in Northern Missouri." -- Do you have any information about John B. Carpenter's second marriage? Thanks --Terry
