Reece E. Dean
Reece Edward Dean, 83, of Elkton, died March 5, 2002, at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident for 2½ years.
Mr. Dean was born July 16, 1918, in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Joshua B. and Ella Eppard Dean.
Mr. Dean was a member of the Furnace United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and honorary trustee, taught the Adult Sunday School Class, was Sunday school superintendent for more than 20 years and was a member of the church choir. Mr. Dean farmed most of his life and drove a school bus for Rockingham County for over 30 years.
On Jan. 12, 1946, he married Virdus Ferrell Dean, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Edward Lee "Eddie" Dean and wife, Beverly, Elkton; two sisters, Laura Seal, Elkton and Reva Shifflett and husband, John, Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Amanda Holloway and husband, Jeremy, and Faith Smith and husband, Jason; and three great-grandchildren, Lexie Holloway, Joshua Holloway and Shyanne Smith.
Mr. Dean was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Dale Dean.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Furnace United Methodist Church on Naked Creek. The Rev. Michael Plasters will conduct the service. Burial will follow at the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends this evening (Wednesday) from 7 to 8 at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home at Elkton. Friends may also call at the Dean home at any time.
