I have a Hiram Bedford in Ontario named in my family memoirs, (written by Alta McMeekin Callison in the early 1900s). To quote:

"In Ontario they met a young Englishman with 'hair as red as calico' whose name was Hiram Bedford. He had apparently not been in Canada very long, and he seems to have come trailing clouds of glory from his old home, for, though nobody knows anything at all about his family or old home, his memory carries a definite aura of gentility."

"He married Amy Cook and had at least two children, Hiram and Lydia. Lydia married a Mr. Wilkerson who died, leaving a son, Manly. Later she married Adam Raven, who was a widower with several children."

I am descended from Adam Raven and Lydia Bedford Raven, and have quite a few more stories about them and the Bedford family in the memoirs. I can post more if you're interested.
